It is a proud moment for all Pakistanis’, our very own Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy
has won Pakistan’s first Oscar for a short documentary “Saving Face
”. Oscar is the most prestigious and coveted award around the globe. In her acceptance speech she said, “All the women in Pakistan working for change, don’t give up on your dreams, this is for you”.
Besides jubilation and admiration; question popping in everyone’s mind, who designed Sahrmeen’s wardrobe for Oscars? Well the answer is; Sharmeen took so many Pakistani designers to the Oscars, all female, a perfect occasion to represent Pakistan’s rich culture, craftsmanship and creativity. Sharmeen a strong women herself, dedicated her award to the women of Pakistan, understandably she chose all females as her wardrobe designers to represent endeavour of women of Pakistan to the world. for Oscar related events. Likewise Kiran Aman
of Kiran Fine Jewellery
and Sherezad Rahimtoola
crafted Sharmeen’s Jewellery.
Bunto Kazmi has designed an ivory coat that has gold, silver, resham and azri work. Persian motifs and French knots elegantly used to enhance over all look of dress. Sharmeen looked absolutely magnificent on the stage waering Bunto Kazmi while receiving award.
Dynamic duo Sana Safinaz
who are considered as urbane designers, designed four of Sharmeen’s dresses for Oscar related events. Sana Safinaz designed Chinoys dresses with careful consideration as she was not only representing Pakistan but the face of modern Pakistani women as well. All dresses contained beautiful fusion of eastern and western philosophies. They designed a soft, silver-grey, front-open kurta with delicate silver and gold work. Sana Safinaz made three other dresses to be worn for different occasions mainly for nominations, lunches and parties.
was absolutely thrilled and ecstatic to be chosen over legends like Bunto Kazmi and Sania Safinaz. As the brand is only a year old but due to its uniqueness and detailed artwork, it is gaining popularly massively. Sania Maskatiya designed two of Sharmeen’s outfits. The first dress was a hand-embroidered piece in which the tree of life serves as the focal theme. The tree had multiple local birds such as the cuckoo bird, sparrow, parrots and owl and has other elements which include butterflies and bugs, while the front is decorated with a peafowl, locally known as surkhab.
The second outfit an emerald green kameez and churidar pajama outfit embroidered in hath ari. Front of Kameez represented hunting scene, man going hunting animals, while back had three boxes representing different hunting scene.
Kiran Fine Jewellery
Kiran Aman of Kiran Fine Jewellery designed vintage gold earrings with diamond and pearls. Kiran also designed a hand cuff band for Sharmeen, also fashioned in vintage gold, diamond and pearls. This hand cuff had an exclusive clasp at the back of hand cuff that had Pakistani flag attached to it, g made with green sapphires and white diamond. Sharmeen worn it on the ceremony, you can see ting green flag hanging from her cuff band in her acceptance speech and pictures.
Sherezad Rahimtoola specially designed hand-crafted, long diamond earrings with rubies, a bracelet of diamonds and rubies, a classic ruby and diamond ring and a pair of long diamond earrings in gold and enamel finish. The gems for pieces were selected exclusively to match Sharmeen’s outfits.
